Workshop at the National Mineral Resources Agency: Regulation, Standards and Sustainable Future for the Mining Sector

The National Agency of Mineral Resources hosted a three-hour intensive workshop by PetroShore Compliance on 02/06/25, focused on the importance of implementing international standards in the mining industry.

The meeting became a key space for technical and strategic dialogue between representatives of the public sector and specialists in certification and sustainability.

Focus on excellence: ISO and IRMA as pillars of transformation

During the workshop, the relevance of adopting standards such as those of the ISO family, especially those related to environmental management, occupational health and safety, corporate governance and risk management, was discussed in depth. The discussion emphasized how these standards not only increase operational efficiency, but also strengthen the institutional reputation and international competitiveness of mining companies.

Another central point was the presentation of the IRMA (Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance) standard, considered one of the most demanding global frameworks for responsible mining. IRMA promotes transparent practices, respect for human rights, strong community relations and environmental protection throughout the mining value chain.

Regulatory perspective: an active role in the governance of the sector

The workshop also provided an opportunity to learn about the strategic vision of the National Agency of Mineral Resources on the effective implementation of these standards as part of its policy of supervision and promotion of good practices. The need for public institutions not only to supervise, but also to act as catalysts for continuous improvement and innovation in the extractive sector was highlighted.

From the regulator's perspective, alignment with standards such as ISO and IRMA is key to attracting responsible investment, protecting national interests and ensuring that mining development is compatible with the country's social and environmental objectives.

Conclusion: alliances for a mining of the future

These types of initiatives reinforce the institutional commitment to modern, ethical and sustainable mining. The conference concluded with a call to build alliances between the State, industry, academia and civil society in order to promote a structural transformation of the sector based on integrity, transparency and regulatory compliance.

PetroShore Compliance is prepared to accompany organizations in this process.
